VSCR Annual Election Meeting Summary
Many thanks to everyone who attended the VSCR Fall Election meeting on November 29. Despite the proximity to the Thanksgiving holiday we still had over 22 members attend.

The main objective of the meeting was to elect a new Vice President, Competition Chair and Competition Committee. I've outlined the new positions below. Many thanks to everyone who stepped up to new positions.

New Vice President:  Travis Mjolsnes
New Competition Chair:  Steve Nichols
New Competition Committee:
    Daryn Bosell
    Steve Martin
    Paul Bastyr
    Randy Byboth
    Brian Kennedy
    Ben Robertaccio

First order of business for Travis as Vice President is to organize the winter banquet. We're tentatively targeting a date somewhere between the end of January and the middle of February. If you have any suggestions on venue or speaker, please let know.

I propose that the competition committee meet sometime in December or early January to discuss eligibility and any potential changes to our eligibility requirements. Steve Nichols, as new Competition Chair, will organize this meeting.

At the meeting there were a couple of administrative changes, namely to our GCR Safety requirements and to the election piece of our bylaws. In regards to the latter we agreed on a new elections process that eliminates the requirement of a nominations meeting followed closely by another separate election meeting thereafter. The new arrangement combines nominations and elections into one meeting. In the event that we have more nominations than open positions, an electronic voting survey will get sent out within 3 days of the meeting with results declared 7 days after the voting instrument is distributed. This arrangement was established to allow those who could not attend the meeting an opportunity to place a vote. If we only have enough nominations to fill the open positions we will not push out the voting survey, and those nominated will assume the open positions. The bylaws will be updated for the VSCR website.

Finally, we talked briefly about our planned 2015 race events. As usual, we will join SCCA for the Harvey West Memorial Races on Memorial Day Weekend and for the Jack Pine Sprints on Labor Day weekend. There is a possibility to run the fourth of July Trans Am weekend at Brainerd and I will call Gary Curtis to see if there is any desire to have us join as support. This year the event is run in conjunction with NASA as opposed to SCCA. Once we determine if they would have us at the event we will gauge interest amongst the club members.

Ben Robertaccio
President, VSCR

News & Notes
Waumandee Hillclimb
A perfect day at the Waumandee Hillclimb. Tom Hazen and the Minnesota Austin Healey Club outdid themselves. The Friday evening pizza party, the Saturday hillclimb and awards banquet, and the Sunday tour of a private Franklin car museum were all big hits. The beautiful summer weather was a big bonus.

VSCR was well represented by Paul Bastyr, John Hertsgaard, Jeff Ingebrigtson, Dan Powell, Phil Schaefer, and Rich Stadther. See the hillclimb results and the 2015 event flier for information. Next year's date is September 26. Check out Paul Bastyr's video of his 2013 run up the hill.
Jack Pine Sprints
The August 30-31 Labor Day Jack Pine Sprints at Brainerd International Raceway are history. It was a great weekend of vintage racing that started off with a taco dinner provided by Pres. Jim and Maria Friday evening. A mix of wet and dry tracks made for some beautiful spins and hard racing. The growing Trans Am field was 28 this year, and the Pirelli World Challenge was great fun to watch. The LOL SCCA club racing provided excitement to the mix as well.

Jim Green ran the track touring again at lunchtime giving workers and visitors a chance to drive the track and race drivers time to check out their cars.

Congratulations to Jim Gaffney, new Voice of VSCR, for his able assistance to announcer Tim Winker in providing vintage commentary.
Video from The Hawk at Road America
Check out Jessica Johnk's great video from July 18-20 at Road America. According to dad Jeff Johnk, "It is not just another traditional in car camera video but tries to communicate the whole weekend experience. Jessica got up at 5 every morning to capture the perfect sunrise over turn 13 in the opening shot. Hope you and the club enjoy it."

Check out the great photos from the Memorial weekend racing. A big thank you to Margie and Pat Starr, Tom Hanson, and Tim Johnson!

Driver suit alert from SFI via VMC
The Vintage Motorsports Council (VMC) provides more than licensing to vintage drivers. Another membership benefit is access to the SFI Foundation via the VMC's group SFI subscription. The SFI Foundation is the organization that issues and administers standards for specialty/performance automotive and racing equipment, including driver suits. VMC sent the following alert to member organizations, including John Hertsgaard, VSCR Competition Chair:

"SFI sent out a warning about race suits which 'incorporate an outer layer of material that is neither flame nor heat resistant, and will melt at relatively low temperatures. These suits are commonly identified by the nature of their graphics, which are achieved by a process called dye sublimation."
