Annual Tech Inspections & LOL Spring Racing Meetup April 13
John Hertsgaard, VSCR Competition Chair, will provide annual race car tech inspections on Sunday, April 13 at Westside Volkswagen. This is a chance to find out early if your car has any issues instead of waiting for tech at the track.

Tech inspections must be arranged in advance with If no one signs up, he will not be there.

Activities commence at 10 AM with SCCA and Vintage Annual Tech until 2 PM. The SCCA/LOL 1st Annual Spring Racing Meetup will go from noon to 2:30. It will include booths/tables, presentations and information about getting involved in racing in Minnesota. Included are club racing, vintage racing, worker participation, Solo, PDX, Road Rally and Rallycross. The plan is to have display cars, drivers, and workers to talk to prospects. Food and beverages, too. Twin Cities Auto Show attendees will be invited to the Meetup. This takes the place of the March 21 Open House on the LOL calendar.

It would be great to have some Vintage cars and representatives at the Meetup. Please let John know if you can help out.
VSCR Annual Swap Meet is April 26
VSCR's swap meet is set for Saturday, April 26 at Quality Coaches in Minneapolis. Bring automotive parts and paraphernalia to sell or swap, hear the latest VSCR updates, and visit with fellow racers and enthusiasts. Open to all.

Check back for details as the date gets closer.

Another Successful Winter Banquet!    Photos
The 2014 VSCR Winter Banquet was sold out in advance and held at a fabulous private automobile collection. Great fun was had by all; what a fantastic break from this tough winter in Minnesota. The automotive smells of the collection alone lifted your spirits up! Ben Robertaccio and his team did a great job in securing the venue and setting up this rare opportunity for the club.

Pat Starr won, in back-to-back seasons no less, the shtstick award. This award is annually presented to the driver who has an off-track excursion, historically in turn 3 at Brainerd. Pat went off-track at Road America between turns 7 and 8 in the rain and kissed the tire barrier to "win" the award. In addition to the award, Pat was presented a backup car by John Hagen (John has been known to bring two cars to the track). It turned out to be a beautiful hand-painted model of Pat's Morgan.

Steve Nichols was awarded the Rookie of the Year award. Steve had a great season with his MGB, attended driver school with the VSCDA at Gingerman, and turned in times at both Brainerd and Road America that were immediately competitive in his class. Commemorating traditional rookie status, a big red X was prominently placed on the trophy. Congratulations to Steve and we hope that this will be an annual award in the future!

The Grady award will be presented at the Spring Swap meet on April 26.

Thank you to all who volunteered behind the scenes and those who attended the 2014 VSCR Winter Banquet and made the event such a success.

Special thank you to all those who donated door prizes, including Brainerd Raceway, Rippie Motorsports, Hawk Brakes, Morries Automotive, Quality Coaches, and many other individually donated items.

Driver suit alert from SFI via VMC
The Vintage Motorsports Council (VMC) provides more than licensing to vintage drivers. Another membership benefit is access to the SFI Foundation via the VMC's group SFI subscription. The SFI Foundation is the organization that issues and administers standards for specialty/performance automotive and racing equipment, including driver suits. VMC sent the following alert to member organizations, including John Hertsgaard, VSCR Competition Chair:

"SFI sent out a warning about race suits which 'incorporate an outer layer of material that is neither flame nor heat resistant, and will melt at relatively low temperatures. These suits are commonly identified by the nature of their graphics, which are achieved by a process called dye sublimation."
